Name: Sirius Black AKA Padfoot; Snuffles

Canon point: Happy to do anything from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban through the end of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Personality: Can often behave recklessly, needs to feel useful, can be rather cruel to those he doesn't like, but is extremely devoted to those he loves and will risk everything to protect them.

Personal information: Sirius is a pure-blood wizard, born into a 'noble' house that supported Voldemort's beliefs about the importance of maintaining blood purity in the magical community. Sirius, however, rejected those beliefs as a young man. He was sorted into Gryffindor at Hogwarts, where he met his best friends James, Remus and Peter. At Hogwarts, he became an illegal Animagus- his form is a big, black dog. He is able to transform into his dog form at will. Due to a horrific misunderstanding, Sirius spent 12 years in the wizard prison Azkaban for supposedly betraying James and Lily to Voldemort and murdering Peter along with a group of Muggles. In reality, Peter had been the one to betray their friends, and the one to do the killings.

A little more background: Sirius spent the last few years on the move after Harry and the others helped him escape a grisly fate at the hands of the Dementors in 'The Prisoner of Azkaban'. He kept in touch with Harry during 'The Goblet of Fire,' at the conclusion of which Dumbledore instructed him to gather the remaining members of the Order of the Phoenix. He now lives in his family's old house, Grimmauld Place, much to his constant displeasure.
